Susie was born in South Korea but grew up in Australia. As a quiet and socially awkward child, art became a source of self-expression and escape. During her teenage years, she fell in love with the art of tattooing when the postman incorrectly delivered a magazine full of tattooed women to her house. During this time, she started to teach herself how to draw as her family heavily pressured her to go into law school. She originally got into law school in 2013, but knew from day one that this wasn’t the life she wanted and quit during her first year. She applied and got into art school, then eventually moved out and got a part-time job to save up for a future apprenticeship.
Almost ten years later, the craziness of life brought her to the United States and she finally was ready to take that plunge. She took her portfolio to tattoo shops in Manhattan until she walked into Red Baron Ink. The quality of work in the shop, as well as the versatility of styles, artists and clientele really excited her. She feels so incredibly lucky everyday to be learning everything tattoo under the watchful eye of Grant Lubbock. She’s happy to be drawing any subject matter, but a lifelong love of horror movies drives her to love anything weird, strange or creepy (even just a little bit!). So far, she’s been enjoying anything that allows her to put her shading skills to good use.
